Teacher Notes: Getting ready for a new Year with Type To Learn






1. Create new classes for each teacher (do this before the kids log in)


a. Open Type to learn Teacher Interface
b. Type in Password
c. Select Teacher from List then DOUBLE CLICK
d. Choose CLASS LIST
e. Click on ADD
f. Type in name of new school year (i.e. 08-09) or other class name
g. Click on DONE
h. Click on Back to Program
Students can now log into Type to Learn and create accounts under your class.


2. First time log in procedure for students (if you want them to create their own account)
a. Open type to Learn
b. Turn Down Sound (Options, Sound Level, change to 0%) then OK
c. Select Teachers Name in column 1
d. Select Class Name in column 2
e. Type in Student First and Last Name
f. OK
(You can also create the class list ahead of time from the teacher menu.


3. Moving students from last year's class to this year's class


a. Open Type to Learn Teacher Interface
b. Type in Password
c. Click on Last Year's Teacher -
d. Click on Class List (once) Select Last Year's Class Name
e. Click on each students name to move to a new teacher (one teacher at a time)
(You can HOLD CONTROL down while you click to select more than one name)
f. Click on MOVE button
g. Select New Teacher
h. Select New Class
i. CLICK on MOVE button again. It will ask ARE YOU SURE. Click YES.
(Repeat for each teacher (Back, Back, Back to Teacher list & repeat steps a - i )



4. Adjusting settings for your class


a. Open Type to Learn Teacher Interface
b. Type in Password
c. Select the TEACHER (your name) Double Click
d. Select CLASS OPTION
e. Select Modify Setting for ALL Classes
f. Select Advanced Setup Options
g. Select Mission Options. (Click on CHANGE button)
h. Turn OFF Dictation. Keep Notebook optional. Make all others REQUIRED.
(This will give the third graders more practice)
i. Hit SAVE!!!!
j. You can also play around with some of the Lesson Options if you want.
(Don't forget to save)



5. Adjusting settings for one student


(I use this to set students back a few missions)
a. Open Type to Learn Teacher Interface
b. Type in Password
c. Select the TEACHER (your name) Double Click
d. Click on Class Options
e. Click on Student
f. You can click on students if you want to do more than one at a time.
g. Choose the right class
h. Click on all students you want to change
i. Click on Advanced Setup Options
j. Click on Program Options
k. Change the CURRENT MISSION Number (near bottom right)
i. SAVE



6. Print Class Progress Report


a. Open Type to Learn Teacher Interface
b. Type in Password
c. Select the TEACHER (your name) Double Click
d. Select Progress Report
e. Select Mission Class Report
f. Change the CLASS (drop down) if you want
g. Change how you sort it (bottom drop down) if you want
h. Print it
(There are many other reports to print. This is one I use most, and often sort it by mission number)
